1156 Farmington Avenue
In December 2003, Jim and Nancy McIntyre generously donated the Land Trust’s first
piece of property. The property is a more than one acre parcel located behind 1156
Farmington Avenue, and features a branch of Trout Brook that winds its way through
heavily wooded wetlands. Deer frequent the area and just recently a pair of red foxes
were spotted on the property. The McIntyre’s were so happy with the prospect of the
Land Trust preserving this property in its natural state in perpetuity that Jim has joined
us as a board member.

In December 2004, we acquired our second piece of property. This parcel, which is
located at 12 Clark Drive, is about an acre and a quarter and is comprised almost
entirely of wetlands. It is especially gratifying for us to acquire this parcel because the
surrounding neighbors have sought to prevent its development for the past decade.

In December 2005 The West Hartford Land Trust took title to a large parcel of
undeveloped land off Farmington Avenue near West Hartford Center.  Renowned local
architect Tai Soo Kim donated the nearly 1.5 acre property located in the Farmington
Avenue block bordered by Garfield Road, Wardwell Road, and Eastview Street, less
than a mile from West Hartford Center.

University of Hartford
In December 2006 the West Hartford Land Trust agreed to become the grantee on
conservation easements on two separate six-acre parcels on University of Hartford
property to ensure that they stay in their current, natural state forever.  One of the
parcels is located south of the University’s Operations/Public Safety Building (near the
planned site of the new University High School of Science and Engineering building)
and the other is located north of  the University’s Sports Center.
